Step Ladders are used for work that is not in your reach when you are standing on your feet on the floor. Because step ladders are a tool that is used on a day-to-day basis, even in the home, it is usually made an assumption that people know how to use them properly. Most people don’t inspect their ladder at home, & many wouldn’t know what to look for if they did. Many people take risks that could injure them or worse.
Many accidents have been associated with its use, mainly due to falls from a height. Sometimes people get injured & sometimes people die because of serious injury. So it is most important to understand what precautions you must take whenever you use it.
If you are looking for a step ladder in Singapore, then you must check out this article. I will give some safety precautions that must be kept in mind while using a Step ladder
READ THE INSTRUCTION BEFORE YOU USE IT
Must read the instructions before using it such as the load capacity that is marked on the stepladder. The rating must cover the weight of the person who is going up on the ladder & the weight of the tools to be used.
HOW HIGH CAN I STEP UP?
Before stepping up on the ladder, you must check how high you can go on the ladder. Read the instruction carefully which says, “Don’t climb on or above this step.”
INSPECT THE LADDER BEFORE YOU USE IT
Any ladder can develop a problem that can make it unsafe. Every time you use a ladder, inspect for loose or damaged rungs, rungs, rails, or clamps. Also check for screws, bolts, hinges, and other loose parts. The ladder must be repaired or replaced If it is defective. Never use a defective ladder.
PLACE THE LADDER WITH CARE
It does not matter how safe the ladder is if it is placed in a dangerous place, then it is dangerous, such as blocking or locking any nearby doors that open towards you. The area around the base must be clear and the ladder must be placed on a solid, level surface. Step Ladders must be fully open.
GO UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS CAREFULLY
Do not step up the ladder from your back. Always face the ladder and use both hands to go up and down. Always keep the three limbs on the ladder. Carry tools on a tool belt or raise & lower them with a hand line.
AVOID PUSHING & PULLING THE LADDER
Avoid pushing or pulling stepladders from the side. Regular pushing or pulling ladders from the side causes them to wobble as they are weaker or less stable in those directions. Instead, you can just pick up the ladder & move it wherever you want to.
DON’T MOVE IT WHEN YOU ARE STANDING ON THE LADDER
If you are standing on the ladder & you need to move it a little bit, then it is better to step down from the ladder & then move it. Because if you are moving it when you are standing on it then there are chances that you could fall from it & get injured.
