If you’ve ventured into your shed or garage to find an old step ladder for a quick DIY job only to discover it’s a little beyond repair, don’t take the risk – it’s time to purchase a new one .
Your old ladder doesn’t have to go to waste though! Why not repurpose it as a unique bookshelf or side table?
There are so many fun ways to upcycle your old ladders. Keep reading for some inspiration!
Bookshelf
Impress your guests with a unique bookshelf made from your repurposed step ladder. If you’ve got an old wooden step ladder hanging around, a simple lick of paint could bring it back to life as a gorgeous holder for all your favourite books. If it’s an aluminium step ladder you want to repurpose, give it a clean and leave it as it is for an industrial look, or maybe add some fairy lights for a bit of sparkle.
Side table
A small step ladder would make a great side table for next to your couch or bed. The top platform would work well as a place for drinks, candles and other trinkets. You could even store a few of your current favourite books on the bottom step.
Plant/flower stand
Anyone can display a few plants on a windowsill or dotted around the floor, but a unique step ladder plant stand is far more interesting. Place a few potted plants in an alternating fashion on each step or display a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the top platform.
Bathroom towel holder
After a good clean and perhaps a lick of paint, an old step ladder would make a brilliant towel holder in your bathroom. Simply fold or roll each towel and place them on every step. Your guests will certainly be impressed.
Garden décor
If your old step ladder is a little too worn to look nice as part of your interior décor, why not jazz it up as a piece of garden furniture? You could train one of your outdoor plants to grow and twist through each step or add some fun outdoor lights. You could also use it to store garden equipment like watering cans, trowels/forks or even a bird box/feeder.
